Mónica Moro y Raquel Martínez
Co-Founders and Directors of This is Libre
Mónica and Raquel are an unusual duo since they were college classmates.

They entered McCann together as trainees and rose to lead the creative department of the largest agency in the country at a time when women were notably underrepresented, achieving the Agency of the Year award several times. Two years ago, they decided to leave the multinational to start their own project, This is Libre, where ideas take precedence over structures. They have accumulated over a thousand awards at the most prestigious advertising festivals in the world, such as Cannes, Eurobest, NY Festivals, El Sol, or El Ojo de Iberoamérica, and they are the most awarded creative professionals in the history of the Club de Creativos (c de c).

Through their campaigns, they aim to foster unique conversations between people and relevant topics that connect brands with society, achieving remarkable results in both public opinion and sales. Their accolades include being featured on Forbes’ Most Creative in Business list, serving as president and member of c de c, and holding board positions at The One Club of New York, among others.

Both are mothers, and their respective daughters serve as great sources of inspiration.

Iria Otero Fernández
Founder and creative director of As Peaky Branders, co-founder of the Oh! Sister school, and partner and board member of Más Mujeres Creativas.

When it came time to choose what to study, I was torn between three options: journalism – advertising – psychology. I left it to chance, and I ended up studying Advertising. Just like that, a bit by coincidence.

Since then, I have worked for several brands at both regional and national levels (including Estrella Galicia, Vivesoy, Café Mocay, Leche Pascual, Larsa, Bodegas Paco&Lola, GADISA, R Telefonía), as well as for organizations and institutions (tourism promotion campaigns in Galicia or awareness-raising campaigns against gender-based violence, among others), and I even had the pleasure of working with the band Tanxugueiras in the creative process of their latest album

Up to this point, that’s the beautiful part.

But what is often missing from bios is that during my 15 years of experience as an advertising creative, I lost count of the times I considered changing professions. Precarious salaries, time constraints in the creative processes, the invisibility of women and the lack of values made me contemplate more than once quitting everything and preparing for civil service examinations. Then, one day I had a click moment (or perhaps a crash!) and began surrounding myself with other women professionals who shared the same problems and the same detachment regarding the type of advertising we were producing… and I realized how essential our narratives, perspectives, and skills are to transform the advertising industry from both within and outside.

This purpose has restored the sparkle in my eyes and provided me the motivation I needed to establish “As Peaky Branders”, a bet on transformative creativity, with a focus on quality of life, from a rural perspective, while fostering collaboration networks among women creatives.

A year ago, I co-founded the first school for female creatives run by female creatives, called Oh! Sister, alongside my Basque colleague, Cristina Guezuraga, which is now in its third cohort. And I recently joined the board of Más Mujeres Creativas to promote change withing industry.

I believe that a different approach to advertising is possible.
